Lanham, Maryland, USA - August 2, 2018 - Orolia, the global leader in emergency readiness and response, is pleased to announce that Col. Mark G. Cianciolo (USMC Ret.) is joining the board of directors of the Association for Rescue at Sea (AFRAS), a U.S.-based non-profit that raises money for world volunteer maritime search and rescue organizations.
Cianciolo, a 31-year U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serves as Regional Vice President, Americas for Orolia. “It is an honor to serve on the AFRAS board with fellow maritime and search and rescue professionals. Orolia has a long history of developing state of the art technologies that help keep people safe while navigating our world’s waterways, and enable the highest level of rescue efforts when people find themselves in a distress situation. Our recent introduction of the world’s first AIS EPIRB emergency maritime beacon, our ongoing contract to supply personal locator beacons to the U.S. Coast Guard and our leadership in building over 60% of the global satellite search and rescue infrastructure are examples of our dedication to improving safer journeys at sea.”
Cianciolo begins his AFRAS Director term after the organization's annual Board of Directors meeting adjourns, being held in Washington D.C. Sept. 13. The meeting is followed by the annual AFRAS Capitol Hill search and rescue award ceremony, at the Rayburn House Office Building. The ceremony honors heroic efforts of individuals and ship crews who have saved lives at sea during the previous calendar year. AFRAS presents lifesaving awards to U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary individuals and crews, world volunteer maritime search and rescue crews, commercial ship crews from around the globe and cruise ship crews.
